You don’t need more land. How to give yourself 4 times more crops—
(4 times more profits)— on the same amount of land as you have now.
If your goal is to grow more crops… you might be tempted to go out and buy more land. You don’t have to do that. Here’s why and how…
If you have one acre or 100 acres… you don’t need more land. What you need is a different system of farming.
You don’t need more equipment, you need less. You don’t need more insecticide, you need less. You don’t need more chemical fertilizers you need less.
The only thing you might need are more warm bodies… elbow grease… and the knowledge and insights to hand-craft a better product.
If you’re lazy and you’ve got the capital invested in heavy equipment… tractors, combines, etc. picking up more land may be the best thing to do.
But keep in mind that relying on heavy equipment, you must compromise on the way nature wants to operate. More on this thought later…
But if you’re NOT willing to mortgage yourself and if land is tight… use the land you have to grow 4 times more crops by getting your hands more dirty than they get now.
If you use heavy equipment… maybe you don’t need warm bodies…to help you plant, water, pick, fertilize… that’s ok.
But I think you’ll find you can get 4 times more crops by using ONE MAN per acre to work the land using composting, double-digging, wide beds, mulch, companion planting, watering, etc.
One man per acre. Or use less manpower by putting together a hybrid of hand-crafted farming using some equipment but including wide beds, feeding the soil with compost, manure… mulch… etc.
You’ll have a more luscious farm with more crops than you may have thought possible.
There are far too many farmers making small, small profits … some get as little as $200 to $300 dollar per acre… and they use conventional methods of big farming… lots of land… a million dollars worth of machinery… pesticides… chemical fertilizers… and most importantly… they are totally dependent on “one buyer”… who then flips the crops over to Walmart or Costco at a nice profit.
Listen… organic, non-GMO crops can get you better prices… and organic and non-GMO requires a more “hand-crafted” approach.
If you have one man working one acre… during the growing season… let’s say you pay that man $20,000 a year.
How much crops can you pull out of an acre of handcrafted crops? It shouldn’t be hard to pull some $40,000 to $80,000—but you’ll need customers (PLURAL)… not one customer. But you won’t have the expense of machinery, chemicals, insecticide, etc.
When you have many customers, you have the advantage of buyers competing to buy.
If you sell only to the Chicago board of suits and ties there is no competition to buy your crop. Bad news brother.
If you GROW your customer base and GROW your products… It’s possible to pull up to $90,000 per acre from your farm. Singing Frogs Farm does just that… on 3 acres.
You should make profits for yourself. But if you have a commercial farm… using commercial farming methods… you have many people with their hands held out to you…
The seed salesman wants his money.
The planting equipment salesman wants his money.
The fertilizer salesman wants his money.
The insecticide salesman wants his money.
And the ONE BUYER at the Chicago board of suits and ties says there is a “surplus” of grains this year, so you get screwed.
Again… you need to GROW YOUR customer list as well as growing your crops.

In the plumbing business, most plumbers don’t realize that they are running two businesses at once. They are running a retail business, and a wholesale business.
In the retail business, they get a call from Mrs. Jones who has a stopped-up toilet. With her, the plumber can solve her problem and get paid the same day… and his prices and profits are higher than what he would make in his “wholesale” situation.
What is the plumber’s wholesale situation?
It’s just this… the plumber gets a call from Mr. Smith, a general contractor who is building a 100-unit apartment building. He calls 5 or 10 plumbers in and gives them the plans and asked for THE LOWEST BID… and then makes the plumber who wins the bid WAIT 90 DAYS or more to get paid.
So, he not only has to give the LOWEST price to the ONE BUYER, but he also has to be a “bank” letting the general contractor hold his money for 90 days or more.
When a plumber finally see this double-edged problem… he would be smart to stop returning calls for general contractors, and concentrate on his RETAIL SIDE of growing his customer base of retail plumbing services buyers.
The farmer faces the same problem. He can sell to ONE BUYER on the wholesale side. Or, he can buck up, be a man, and realize he’s not a farmer, but a MARKETER. And instead of just growing crops, grow his own market.
If you have a big spread… 100 acres or more… and you want to begin to wean yourself off of this ONE BUYER (Chicago Board of Suits And Ties) mentality…. Carve out just one acre… and double-dig the beds like you’re “spoose” to. And use some good compost… and companion planting and planting by the phases of the moon… and wide beds… and set up a road side stand… and go to the farmers market… and collect names and addresses of buyers and start selling into the RETAIL MARKET.

Want more crops? You don’t need more land. You need to “fluff the land and give it some air. And give the land some food.
“Feed your soil, not your plants”.
OK… Most folks know your plants need nutrients from the soil… potassium, nitrogen, magnesium, and so forth…
But most folks don’t realize plants need AIR as much as dirt. Roots need some breathing room to.
So… Here is why and how to DOUBLE DIG your garden beds.
You don’t want to make and plant in ROWS… no, that’s what a tractor makes. Instead, make beds.
