GARDENING NOTES FROM RUTH STOUT:
Sorry to make you jealous… but I haven’t been in a supermarket for at least 14 years.
When do I get up… somewhere between 6 and 8… according to when I feel like it. and have a long “roman” style breakfast I get started.
I never use a plow… or spade, or cultivate, or weed, or hoe, or use fertilizer, or poison spray, or use a compost pile or water.
I just plant and pick.
Since weed seeds come up all over your garden, without your fooling around planting ‘em… I don’t see why the other things can’t come up too
I had these potatoes in the house all winter… and then they begin to sprout… and instead of throwing them away… I just throw ‘em in the ground… and you get potatoes.
That’s it. The potatoes are planted.
Get some hay on top of those potatoes. Otherwise they’ll die.
Just keep the sun off of them.
I never put any hay on top of seeds
Cotton seed is good for plants.
There’s nothing dull about gardening, I’ll tell you that.
It’s fantastic… growing your own things.
I’ve had 7,000 people come and look at my garden.
I never do anything I don’t want to do.
I used to garden naked.
Cars used to drive by slowly when I was naked in the garden.
